Mentorship

If you’re looking for skilled mentorship as a fellow nurse psychotherapist, or someone in a counseling role, look no further!

Mentorship is an opportunity for you as a therapist to gain and refine your clinical skills, learn more about yourself as a therapist, and ensure you are practicing in an ethical and safe manner.

  • What is Mentorship?

Nurses often use the term mentorship, other clinicians use the term ‘supervision.’

As a therapist, it’s important that you are congruent with yourself, your core values and genuinely remain present with your clients.

Engaging in mentorship will help to ensure that you practice psychotherapy safely for the client and yourself, and will help you critically examine your intentions while using particular techniques or counselling modalities.

  • Is Mentorship for you?

It’s for you if you’re wanting to work collaboratively to assess your strengths, areas for learning, establish new goals for yourself and track your progress over time.

This is a great opportunity for you to problem-solve specific cases, ethical issues that arise, and for us to discuss strategies for building and maintaining a successful private practice.

Any practicing therapist can benefit from a mentor/mentee relationship - I encourage you to refer to the guidelines of your regulatory body regarding expectations for supervision/mentorship.

  • What types of things do you get to explore?

Some examples of what mentorship with me looks like:

    -Case Consultations

    -Case Conceptualizations

-Discussion about approaches with specific training on modalities including DBT, CBT, assertiveness and mindfulness

-Support in navigating private practice, building and managing a private practice

  • Humanistic perspective

If you’re a nurse, you know how awesome we are - if you’re not a nurse, you’re about to find out!

Nurse psychotherapists practice from a unique person centered lens. My personal philosophical underpinning to practice is focused on the Humanistic perspective.

Humanistic nursing is a mutual subjective interaction between nurse and client and is a response to the situation which aims at facilitating recovery. It is characterized by empathy, respect for human dignity, altruism, client autonomy, friendly environment, and holistic care.

The great thing about mentorship, is that most regulatory colleges offer individuals the autonomy to choose their mentor and their designation.

Whether you’re exploring your options, looking to further develop or strengthen your skills, or seeking a collaborative environment to explore specific cases, I can help you meet your goals!
